Chairman's Message
It is a real privilege to have been elected Chairman of this wonderful cricket club and an honour to take over from Peter Hensman who leaves a marvellous legacy after three years in the Chair - he and his family have been great supporters of the club over many years. As Chairman he was a strong advocate in the resurrection of our Junior Section.

White Waltham CC has so much going for it - one of the best grounds in Berkshire, a hardworking committee, an expanding Junior section and a sound financial position. There is, however, more that we can do. I have challenged the committee to help me develop a plan for the next three years. It is right that we have ambitions and aspirations and all members should have seen our plans.

Whilst much will focus on the maintenance and improvement of our facilities the real measure of success will always be on the cricket field. We must do better in the Morrant Chilterns Cricket League and I want both league teams to be playing in their respective 1st Divisions rather than the 2nd Divisions. I would also like to see better progress in cup competitions, especially the Npower Village Cup. Success will create opportunities and attract new members as we gain a higher profile in the local cricketing community.

Increasing the playing membership remains a challenge in an geography where there is much competition - we have a real gap in the 25-35 age group. All members should be actively canvassing for new members - ask your friends and work colleagues to join us in taking the Club forward.

Finally I wanted to say a few words about “The Spirit of Cricket”. This was a favourite theme of my predecessor and I would like to continue in the same vein. I am looking for teams to represent the Club by winning with hard and aggressive cricket without alienating the opposition. I want opposition players to enjoy White Waltham and I want us to think of them as a potential new members by making them feel welcome, especially in the bar after the matches. Adult players must also act as role models for our junior members who will become an increasingly important part of the Club.

I hope all members have a successful and enjoyable 2008 season.

Regards

Richard West
